This page provides links to cancer-related Internet resources dealing with alternative and complementary medicine.

The Williamsburg Regional Library provides a variety of cancer-related resources and services for adults and children, including both circulating and reference books and audiovisual materials.

The Alternative Medicine Homepage
Maintained by Charles Wessel, librarian at the Falk Library of the Health Sciences at the Univ. of Pittsburgh, this site provides access to databases of information on alternative medicine, directories of practitioners, online discussion and newsgroups, and links to other Internet resources on this topic.
 
Alternative Therapies
The American Cancer Institute site provides an overview of the use of alternative therapies, links to articles on nontraditional medicine, and information on specific therapies.
 
The American Botanical Council
A non-profit organization founded in 1988, the ABC promotes research and public education regarding the benefits of medicinal plants.
 
The NIH Office of Alternative Medicine
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) works to identify and evaluate the scientific literature on alternative medical practices, and to disseminate information on alternative medical research to the media, to the public, and to healthcare professionals.  This site contains an index to articles, bibliographies of cancer resources, and a clearinghouse for information on contemporary and alternative medicine.
 
Health Care Information Resources -- Alternative Medicine
Created by a librarian at McMaster University Health Services Library, this site has numerous links to Internet information on alternative medicine resources.  The links are arranged in two groups -- general resources for alternative medicine and specific resources on single topics in alternative medicine.  There is also an online dictionary of terms used in alternative therapies.
 
Complementary and Alternative Medicine Center
Mayo Clinic's Complementary and Alternative Medicine Center provides an overview of Complementary and Alternative Medicine.  Also use this site to learn how to evaluate claims of treatment success.

 

National Cancer Institute's Complementary and Alternative Medicine 
NCI's site provides links to questions and answers about complementary and alternative medicine and other quality CAM websites.  Also, this site provides users with an article about the level of evidence of human based studies of cancer alternative and complementary medicine. 
 
NOAH: New York Online Access to Health 
NOAH provides links to high quality consumer health websites.  Included in NOAH is a listing of various alternative and complementary websites. Topics such as aromatherapy, acupuncture, massage, naturopathic medicine and many others are included.
 
The Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine
A comprehensive resource for information on alternative medicine sponsored by the Columbia University School of Medicine. The Carol Ann Schwartz Cancer Initiative at the Rosenthal Center focuses on providing information on alternative/complementary cancer treatment, including clinical trials.
