provides a variety of cancer-related resources and services for adults and
children, including both circulating and reference books and audiovisual
materials (see our research guide on children
understanding cancer).

- Created by the Nemours Foundation's
Center for Children's Health, KidsHealth provides parents, teens, and
children with easy to understand health information. Users can
click on "Kids' Health Problems" to find information about
kids' cancers and treatments.

Kicking Cancer
- Founded by Rabbi/Professor Elimelech
Goldberg after he lost his child to cancer, Kids Kicking Cancer
provides classes for children diagnosed with cancer in mind-body
techniques found in martial arts.
- Ben's
Game
- After nine year old Ben was diagnosed
with leukemia, Ben's wish was to create a video game for kids battling
cancer to play. Ben's dream came true with the help of the Make a Wish
Foundation and Eric Johnston of LucasArts. Users can download
Ben's Game and battle the evil side effects of cancer online.

Books for Children
- Part of the Michigan Electronic
Library, this site lists books for children who have cancer, or for
those with family members who have cancer. There is also a list
of grief resources for children and families, and links to other
children's cancer information.

Funletter
- Mass mailings of the FUNLETTER ended December
2000, but many back issues are available for families.
The Funletter contains
information, games, puzzles and stories for and by children with
cancer. The site also has phone and Internet links to other
organizations helping children and families dealing with
cancer-related issues.

Childhood Cancer Foundation
- The CCCF is a nonprofit organization
whose mission is "to educate, support, serve, and advocate for
families of children of cancer, survivors of childhood cancer, and the
professionals who care for them." The CCCF site has few links,
but does have a useful section on current events such as meetings and
conferences. There is also information on how to contact the
CCCF for further information.

Hospice International
- Children's Hospice International (CHI)
was founded to provide a network of support and care for children with
life-threatening conditions and their families. The web site contains
a glossary of hospice terms, information on talking with children
about serious illness, a list of publications, an online discussion
forum, and links to other Internet resources on children and hospice
care.

Konnected
- Kids Konnected was established to
provide "friendship, understanding, education, and support for
kids have a parent with cancer." The organization provides a
24-hour hotline seven days a week for children of cancer patients, an
e-mail resource center to answer children's cancer questions, and a
bibliography of cancer-related materials for parents, teens, and
children.

- The Leukemia Society's page contains
general information on leukemia, lymphomas, and myelomas; educational
pamphlets; news on current research; a list of meetings, events, and
conferences; information on financial and psychological support for
families dealing with leukemia; and an excellent collection of links
to other Internet resources.

for the Children's Oncology Group
(formerly known as the National Childhood Cancer Foundation)
- The Foundation for the Children's
Oncology Group "supports a network of childhood cancer programs
at institutions throughout North America, and in Australia and Europe,
which conduct ground-breaking laboratory research and give
state-of-the-art care to infants, children, teens and young adults
with cancer." This site contains educational information for
parents, current news about childhood cancer research, information on
clinical trials, and links to other information sources.

- OncoLink's pediatric cancer site
contains general information on childhood cancers, information on
specific types of cancer, articles on pediatric cancers, support
information for children with cancer and their families, links to
treatment centers, and a kid's corner, with activities and artwork.

Oncology Group
- The Children's Oncology Group (COG) is
a collaborative research group dedicated to the treatment of childhood
cancers. The primary purpose of the site is to list contact
information for all the COG member institutions. COG
"develops and coordinates cancer clinical trials conducted at the
238 member institutions, which include cancer centers of all major
universities and teaching hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada, as
well as sites in Europe and Australia.

McDonald Houses Charities
- Ronald McDonald Houses (RMH) provide a
"home away from home" for the families of seriously ill
children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. RMH Charities
supports the Ronald McDonald Houses, and makes grants to other
non-profit organizations who work with seriously ill children.
Information about these grants, including applications can be found on
this site. There is also a list of Ronald McDonald Houses
world-wide.
