children, including both circulating and reference books and audiovisual
materials.
Local
support and advocacy groups
- Cancer
Care, Inc.
- Cancer Care offers free assistance to
people with any type of cancer, including counseling and emotional
support, information on cancer and treatment, referrals to other
support services, educational seminars and materials, financial
consultation, and programs for health care professionals.
Additionally, Cancer Care provides "Special Needs" programs
for patients whose cancer needs are affected by age, social setting,
or other illness.

- CancerFatigue.org, designed by the
Oncology Nursing Society, provides patients with information on
managing cancer treatment related symptoms such as fatigue, anorexia,
pain, depression, neutropenia, and cognitive dysfunction.

Angel Network
- The Corporate Angel Network provides
free air transportation for cancer patients traveling to and from
recognized cancer treatment centers in the U.S. Their web page details
the guidelines for participation, and has information on how to become
a corporate participant.
- Fertile
Hope
- Fertile Hope is a non-profit
organization that offers financial support and help for cancer
patients faced with infertility.

- Grief Net provides support for for
bereaved persons and those working with the bereaved. The web
site has access to grief resources for both adults and children,
resources for caregivers, including information on hospice and
homecare, a list of conferences and meetings, and links to other
Internet resources. Grief Net also sponsors a variety of online
mailing lists, support groups, and discussion groups.

- Published by the American College of
Physicians, this online guide is an excellent resource for those
dealing with end-of-life issues related to cancer.

Konnected
- Kids Konnected was established to
provide "friendship, understanding, education, and support for
kids have a parent with cancer." The organization provides a
24-hour hotline seven days a week for children of cancer patients, an
e-mail resource center to answer children's cancer questions, and a
bibliography of cancer-related materials for parents, teens, and
children.

Information Network for Cancer
- The Legal Information Network for
Cancer (LINC) provides information to help cancer patients and their
families resolve non-medical issues related to cancer. LINC
serves the Central Virginia community with assistance on insurance
claims; eligibility for benefits; employment rights; wills, powers of
attorney, and medical directives; and aid finding legal
representation.

website provides education and guidance to lymphedema patients, health
care professionals and the general public by disseminating information

Helpline (NPATH) provides information and referral for people
needing transportation to distant locations for specialized medical
treatment, healthcare professionals seeking cost-effective ways to
move patients and their families, and volunteer pilots interested in

transport organizations as well as links to healthcare organizations
that cooperate with NPATH.

Resources on this site include an online managed care guide for

McDonald Houses Charities
- Ronald McDonald Houses (RMH) provide a
"home away from home" for the families of seriously ill
children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. RMH Charities
supports the Ronald McDonald Houses, and makes grants to other
non-profit organizations who work with seriously ill children.
Information about these grants, including applications can be found on
this site. There is also a list of Ronald McDonald Houses
world-wide.
